"Smoking is such a bad habbit, that I can't beleive people would get into it! Just think of all the damage your doing to your body, children, enviroment and Family. If you find smoking so addictive call the smokefree quit line, it will diffently make a difference! :)"

"Smoking actually causes stress because cravings distract you from coping with what's going on. So smoking to relieve that extra stress is a bit like stopping hitting yourself with a hammer. It makes you feel better by alleviating the very problem it caused."

"kaua e tatou tikanga a iwi maori, no reira he aha ai matou ki te kai paipa tonu ! ADDICTION - How can we support and lessen the death of us Maori. Stand up and be heard, there's an old proverb that says, 'You can block every blow with the taiaha, but you can never block the words'. It doesn't mean going out there and being abusive, it means standing up and saying, 'I'm a Maori, I don't smoke' (Bradbrook, 2008)"

"Yes, smoking can be a habit. Yes people say that they use it to relive stress.....but i can think of other things to relive stress too that do not harm your health and do not cost money! It is an addictive product. Giving up smoking doesnt not leave you with no other ways to relive stress...thats just a cop out"

"Smoking is a habit. That can be good for people who get so stressed out that they want to kill themselves. They will smoke so they can get relaxed. Would you rather people kill themselves or die from smoking?"

"Us Maoris? I think everyone has the right to make a choice for themselves. And I have no pity for people who make stupid ones."

"Perhaps you need to read the info on-site 'Sam'. You will see that there is no blame game on this deal!!! All about waking Maori up to taking leadership, responsibility over tobacco addiction! Resisting it! Or would you like Maori to just keep smoking???!!! Resisting tobacco is one way of getting Maori out of the economic trap while getting Maori health on track! All positive from my read!"

"So, you know it is addictive, you know it will kill you, and you smoke anyway! who's fault is that? your stupid for starting, and stupid for trying to blame anyone but yourself"

"Tobacco is not a lollipop! It is addictive! The industry doesn't spend millions on a product that will stop people smoking! Weakness? Tell; that to the 4 million who die each year!"

"Just stop smoking retards! Smoking is not 'murder'. Take responsibility and ownership of your problem! Until you workout that smoking is a weakness you will never solve anything."

"I smoked for 15 years and I found it easy to quit smoking, I just had to change my mindset. Instead of saying and thinking I'm trying to quit I replaced it with I don't smoke anymore. If I can do it.... So Can You."

"I smoked for 24 years and have been stopped for just over 2 years now. I keep telling myself that for me to smoke again will only make things worse, I do not avoid smokers and have come to the realisation that as well as being addicted to nicotine for as many years as I was, I can see now that as well as being an addiction it was just an illusion and brainwashing why I did it for so long. Hopefully I will never start again."

"Tena Koutou Whanau Whanui o Aotearoa, It took me 21 years to dispell the illusion that I was addicted to the habit. I have been Auahi Kore for the past 10 months now and I am proud. I want to give myself the best opportunity to be around and assist in toitu te whanau, Hapu me iwi.
I desire to spend any extra time I can to be with my whanau and future generations.
I want to see our whanau stand up and not accept that we have to be a statistic in this senseless addiction.
Kia kaha whanau, Tino Rangatiratanga
Mauriora ki a koutou

"Being fair, I don't smoke and I don't like it at all. I work with smokers, I have friends that are smokers and even some family members smoke. This habit is so widespread amongst all races that I cannot avoid it. I also cannot avoid the fact that I have Asthma and have had 2 bouts of Bronchitis in my lifetime. I think what we need is more education around smoking and the effects it has both within and outside the circle of oneself. From what I know about it, this habit normally starts with people in their youth without much consultation/advice being sought.
On the other hand, tobacco companies are not the only ones that gain from annual gross sales. So if you want to be factual, then along with the statistics and figures provided in this article, it should include the full name and proper title of the executive who works for RJ Reynolds that made this statement. For all I know, this executive is male and it's not exact. Just like other benefactors of tobacco sales not mentioned in this piece."

"Perhaps you might like to ask why tobacco is not banned?
Could it be that the $1.2b annual exicise duty from tobacco alone is hard for the NZ govt to forgo.
The tobacco companies are not your target - the tobacco companies are a very convenient scapegoat "
